Indonesia Accelerates "Minerals Downstreaming" Strategy, Sparking Investment Boom in Metallurgy and Casting
As Indonesia continues to advance its "Minerals Downstreaming Policy," banning exports of raw minerals like nickel and bauxite, the domestic metallurgy and casting sectors are experiencing explosive growth. According to the latest data from Indonesia's Investment Ministry, 54 smelters were newly operational between 2024 and the first half of 2025, including 29 nickel smelters and 9 bauxite processing plants.
This policy has driven strong demand for critical equipment such as casting machines, continuous casters, and melting furnaces. International suppliers from China, Japan, and South Korea have seen significant order increases, with multiple global casting firms planning to establish processing hubs in Sulawesi and Batam.
Experts note: "Indonesia is transitioning from a 'raw material exporter' to a 'high-end metal products producer.' The casting industry is projected to grow by over 8% annually over the next five years."
